Based on the book by Janice Woods Windle. In the 1800's, after the fall of the Alamo, the strong-willed wife of a frequently absent Texas ranger organizes a retreat of settlers from the threat of Santa Anna's army. Along with her sister and her friend, a Southern Belle who recently migrated to Texas, they fight off Comanche marauders, resist predatory Union occupation forces, battle cholera and embrace suffrage. Over the years their triumphs and tragedies help tame the wild west.
